Salesian Youth Center / Boys and Girls ClubLocated in Tampa, Florida, the Salesian Youth Center/Boys and Girls Club is an inclusive youth development organization committed to help boys and girls develop the character and qualities needed to become responsible citizens and good leaders.
The Center now serves over 8000 inner-city children with an after-school and summer camp program. Aside from giving these youngsters a place to call their own, changes have also taken place in their neighborhood. According to school and law enforcement officials, crime has decreased 14% and school retention has increased 12%. The SYC employs initiatives that teach health, fitness, and self-esteem, as well as preventive education to make positive and healthy choices, and avoid dangerous behaviors and substances. The SYC also encourages character-building service and leadership initiatives, acknowledging the importance of creating an atmosphere that cultivates creativity, citizenship and responsibility. Dedicated staff and Salesian Sisters are present daily to guide club members in activities that challenge young people to excel, while being open-minded and recognizing and respecting the good in themselves and in others. Activities ranging from the arts, music and dance classes to gardening, team sports, and field trips are just a fraction of available SYC programs. It our great hope to continue serving Tampa's needy youth today and for years to come.
